Grammar points



What is passive voice: The passive voice is used to show interest 
in the person or object that experiences an action rather than the 

person or object that performs the action. In other words, the most important thing or person becomes the subject of the sentence.
Examples:
  • The passive voice is used frequently. (= we are interested in the passive voice, not in who uses it.)
  • The house was built in 1654. (= we are interested in the house, not in who built it.)
  • The road is being repaired. (= we are interested in the road, not in the people who are doing the repairs.)


Formulas:
Present Simple: Am/Is/Are+Past Participle.
Example:Wine is made from grapes.
               Many cars are made in Japan.
Past Simple: Was/Were+ Past Participle.
Example:John was invited to speak at the conference.
We were invited to Daniel and Mary’s wedding.
Future Simple: Will+Be+ Past Participle
Example:The contract will be signed tomorrow.
The documents will all be signed by next week.
Present Continuous: Am/ Is / Are+Past Participle.
Example:The document is being sent right now.
I am being sent to work in the London office.
Present Perfect: Have/ Has+Been +Past  Participle.
Example:That start-up has been sold for $5 million.
The rights to his book have been sold for $250,000.
